Princess Candy’s Guide to Sex Work
This short book takes a comprehensive and up-to-date look at today’s sex industry. It weaves together a wide range of voices coming from many perspectives – academic, policy-oriented, practitioners, consumers – to dig down into the reality of what sex work involves and the challenges it represents to individuals and society more broadly.
The book’s particular contribution is to look at the experience of trans women alongside cis-gender women.
Thus the opening chapter on the violence experienced by the latter is matched by a chapter exploring the same issue from a Trans perspective.
Similarly, in the chapters exploring what motivates men to visit sex workers, and how the sex industry works in its modern, online incarnation, the book is careful to differentiate between the expereiences of cis-gender women and Trans sex workers.
The book concludes that the case for legalising some aspects of sex work is strong and that this can benefit sex workers, the people that avail themselves of their services, and the wider community.
It is hoped the Guide will be of interest to students, practitioners, policy-makers and members of the public looking to gain a speedy, up-to-date overview of sex work in the modern world.
